I found this CP/AP piece that is related to this story (go here if you are not a Globe subscriber -- why the hell is the Globe putting wire copy behind its subscription wall? ). If there is anything to it, I agree that it would be a good issue for Layton to raise, though I'm not sure that your thread title is fair. First, there are a lot of things to raise in a campaign, and it's not surprising that a leader wouldn't get to every important issue. Second, he may not have been asked about it. Third, even if he had said something, there is no guarantee that it would have been reported. The story I linked to doesn't say anything about 55 possible CIA flights, or that McLellan is investigating. On the contrary, it says that she brushed it aside: quote: In a recent letter to Bloc MP Serge Menard, Public Safety Minister Anne McLellan said there was no credible information to support suggestions two flights mentioned by the Bloc had been transporting terrorist suspects or otherwise engaging in illegal activities on Canadian soil.
So, out of curiosity, what is your source for 55 possible flights, and McLellan investigating? Also note: Daily Kos picked up this story. [ 16 December 2005: Message edited by: Albireo ]

Plane with links to CIA flies off quote: ... Flight data shows the DeHavilland DHC-6-300 left tiny Bar River last Friday, apparently following extensive repairs. It stopped briefly in Akron, Ohio, before landing Saturday in Smithfield, N.C., a known aviation hub for U.S. intelligence. On Wednesday it flew to the Manassas, Va., airport, not far from CIA headquarters. U.S. Federal Aviation Administration records show the aircraft, with tail number N6161Q, is registered to Aviation Specialties, one of several firms believed to be CIA front companies. The plane has reportedly been spotted in Nevada, Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Malta and Ireland. It had set down in Sault Ste. Marie in early October after taking off from Michigan's Jackson County Airport. The 22-seat turboprop then made the short trip to a private airport just southwest of Bar River. ...

Turns out I once unwittingly worked for such a front company. I was just a part-time grunt air freight ground handler for the domestic cover operation, but the bosses and planes, many of them civilian versions of military models, had a habit of disappearing without notice, then reappearing weeks later, saying nothing about where they had been or why, with few planes or work for us while they were gone. They were "spooks" in every sense of the word, and the pay was way too good for casual work.

He already has. Our man Tony Martin was all over the CIA plane in the Sault as well.I assume we'll be back at it shortly. [ 10 February 2006: Message edited by: Burns ]

Here is the script, so that we can all follow it each time in the future:-X happens. -NDP makes a strong statement about X. -Media largely ignores NDP statement about X. -Somebody asks "Why is the NDP silent on X?" -Somebody else points out that the NDP has not been silent on X, and proves it. -Y happens ... etc. [ 10 February 2006: Message edited by: Albireo ]

Jack doesn't have the means of asking because the House is not in session. Actually, these questions were asked over and over again by the opposition parties in the previous parliament, to which the government responded that they had no evidence of any CIA planes landing in Canada
