Iran is losing influence in Iraq, US President George W. Bush said in a French television interview broadcast Thursday a day before he arrives in Paris on the penultimate leg of a farewell European tour.

"Obviously there is some... Iranian influence inside Iraq -- but it's less than it has been, and will continue to lessen, in my judgment, as its economy and as its political society begins to develop," Bush told France 3 television.

He began his presidency as a liar, he lied all the way through it, and he is ending it as a liar ... some legacy.

Bushie does qualify his statement by saying "in my judgement". That makes it a toss-up between the words of a liar and the words of a doofus (in my judgement, anyways).

While Iranian influence in Iraq may be waning, it appears that the US will be affecting Iraq for generations.

quote:
Babies born in Fallujah are showing illnesses and deformities on a scale never seen before, doctors and residents say.

The new cases, and the number of deaths among children, have risen after "special weaponry" was used in the two massive bombing campaigns in Fallujah in 2004.

After denying it at first, the Pentagon admitted in November 2005 that white phosphorous, a restricted incendiary weapon, was used a year earlier in Fallujah.

In addition, depleted uranium (DU) munitions, which contain low-level radioactive waste, were used heavily in Fallujah. The Pentagon admits to having used 1,200 tons of DU in Iraq thus far

Don't blame humanity. Millions of us hit the streets over and over again to protest this war.

Blame the electorate of the USA.

Some of us voted against him, you know. (And many of us also took to the streets.)

Hell, my (staunchly Republican) Congressman (I guess he's still my Congressman; even though I live in Montréal I'm still registered to vote in his district, absentee) has spoken loudly against this war from the beginning. And Gore did get more votes than Bush. How about "blame the president of the USA"?

According to Seymour Hersh, the US is trying to increase its "influence" in Iran:
quote:
Late last year, Congress agreed to a request from President Bush to fund a major escalation of covert operations against Iran, according to current and former military, intelligence, and congressional sources. These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush, and are designed to destabilize the country’s religious leadership. The covert activities involve support of the minority Ahwazi Arab and Baluchi groups and other dissident organizations. They also include gathering intelligence about Iran’s suspected nuclear-weapons program.

New Yorker.
