Oct 22nd in Amerikka is the start of Islamofascism Awareness Week. Far right nut bars (I mean, speakers) will bring their message of Muslim hatred to the impressionable minds of college kids everywhere. Not sure yet that Amerikka is a land of hate and fear? Not convinced that Muslim bashing is wide spread yet? Have a look at this group of speakers and their message:

quote:
The Week’s events will include speeches about Islamo-Fascism by prominent figures, including former Senator Rick Santorum (Penn State, Temple and UPenn), Sean Hannity (Columbia), Ann Coulter (Tulane and USC), Dennis Prager (UC Santa Barbara), Robert Spencer (Brown, Dartmouth, University of Rhode Island, and DePaul), Daniel Pipes (Northeastern and UPenn), David Horowitz (Columbia, Emory, Ohio State, Michigan and Wisconsin), Michael Ledeen (Maryland), Nonie Darwish (UCLA and Berkeley), Wafa Sultan (Stanford) and radio talk show hosts Melanie Morgan (San Francisco State), Michael Medved (University of Washington), Martha Zoeller (Georgia Tech), Alan Nathan (George Mason), Mark Larson (to be named) and many others.

It's a virtual who's who of right wing nut bars. The purpose of this week:

quote:
The purpose of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week is as simple as it is critical: to confront the two Big Lies of the political left: that George Bush created the "war on terror" and that global warming is a greater danger to Americans than global jihad and Islamic supremacism.

Laugh or cry. This is the state of Amerikka today.

Link left out due to it's utterly despicable message. Just google it.

Edited to add that Daniel Pipes (are you listening Petsy and Ohara?) will also be a speaker.

From Islamophobia Watch:

quote:
"It includes Daniel Pipes, creator of Campuswatch.com, a forum of McCarthyist attacks on Middle East Studies professors who refuse to sympathize with Israel; Ann Coulter, the savage pundit whose rants of unfathomable ignorance have included assertions that Muslims – whom she labels 'ragheads' – have a 'predilection for violence'; Rick Santorum, the xenophobic, Bible-thumping ex-senator from Pennsylvania infamous for his anti-women voting record; Robert Spencer, the conservative commentator who denounces Islam and blames its teachings for producing terrorism worldwide; Dennis Prager, who condemned a Minnesota congressman for ceremoniously swearing on the Quran because it excluded the Bible and 'failed to acknowledge America's Judeo-Christian value system'; Mike Adams, a religious zealot who compares women who have abortions to Charles Manson; and Michael Medved, a guest-host for Rush Limbaugh who has claimed that Islam has a 'special violence problem'.

Jewish Voice for Peace has an online petition for those who wish to stand up against hate-mongering:

I heard about this series of campus dumbfoolery and couldn't bring myself to post about it. Thanks Stargazer.

The JVP website is a progressive site that denounces doofuses like Coulter, et al.

And Rick Santorum is known for a whole lot more than being anti-woman.

You would think that the Christofascists would like the Islamofascists more. I guess they're afraid of the competition.

I'm reminded of a quote from Richard Nixon, at the outset of the news breaking about the Watergate break in. In discussions with his gang, at one point he said "can we get a columnist on this?" Meaning they had some in their pocket willing to spin at their bidding.

That's what the above rogue's gallery is.

It's another step in the manufactured consent for either a limited military action, or all out war with Iran.

The "seepage" is here. CKNW, a fairly major radio station in Vancouver, is doing a "series" attacking multiculturalism. It began with a Right wing newspaper columunist (Canwest) suggesting it was unnecessary and a sop to those who would not adopt "Canadian values" (but vote for Dion).

His message - Steve Harper forever!!

Nutcase, but very dangerous.

I’ve never been able to explain Halloween to the kids, with its odd thematic confluence of pumpkins, candy and death. But Halloween is a piece of pumpkin cake compared to Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, which commences today. In this special week, organized by conservative pundit David Horowitz, we have a veritable witches’ brew of Cheney-style anti-jihadism mixed in with old-fashioned, right-wing anti-feminism and a sour dash of anti-Semitism.

quote:
In their frantic drive to pave the way for a military strike against Iran, leading figures in the neoconservative pro-Israel lobby have embarked on a vicious campaign of demonizing that country by comparing it with the early years of Nazi Germany and its President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, with Hitler.

These champions of war and militarism are the same trigger happy characters who helped orchestrate the criminal war against Iraq on the basis of ghastly lies and criminal fabrications of evidence. Instead of being held responsible for all of the grisly lies and evidence manufacturing, they are let loose to once again beat the drums of war-this time against Iran.

Top among these civilian militarists are Norm Podhoretz, a senior foreign policy adviser to the Republican frontrunner Rudy Giuliani, Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman, and the leader of Israel's Likud Party Benjamin Netanyahu. These are part of the leading members of the "war party" that include, among others, Vice President Dick Cheney in the White House and Elliot Abrams in the State Department.

Podhoretz's wild charges of fascism against Ahmadinejad, Iran, and Islam - at times bordering on delirium and self-parody - are unabashedly spelled out in his recently published book, "World War IV: the Long Struggle against Islamofascism."
...

Anyone even faintly familiar with the socio-economic and historical characteristics of fascism would dismiss these wild accusations and characterizations of Iran as bogus....

Calling Ahmadinejad and/or Iran fascist is even more ironic (it is, in fact, a perfect case of chutzpah) in light of the fact that the expansionist policies of unilateral aggression promoted by the leading figures of Neoconservatism are more akin to Hitler's policies of unprovoked invasion of other countries than is Iran's foreign policy, which respects the sovereignty of its neighbors and harbors no territorial ambition or military aggression against any country.
