I am rather new to this site so I apoligize if this is a topic that has come up already in the past. However, I am curious as to how women in this forum became feminists and what kind of community/solidarity you found along the way.
I am asking because I feel that although I think I was a feminist almost from birth, I never really found a way to channel my beliefs into any sort of activism or community of women. I didn't really find there was a lot available. Even after minoring in women's studies in University, I found there was a lot more available to me as a labour and political activist rather than a feminist.
I was wondering what people's opinions were of major feminist groups like NAC and how they feel they do at reaching out to average women. I appreciate the work that NAC does but I feel that perhaps they could be better/more accessible in this regard.
For instance, before posting this, I went to their website and a lot of the stuff was from 2001-2002.
Any thoughts? I would also be interested to how what kind of welcome people have received from women's caucuses within political parties.
