While I am familiar with the term Curriculum Vitae, I am completely ignorant of what one looks like. I've been asked for a CV and want to throw one together. Is there anything I should not include? Also, what about format? Is a creative interpretation of font appropriate here?

It really depends what job you're applying for, and what education / experience you have.

What would you have done if they'd asked for a resume instead?

It's for language and speech therapy with a brain injured adolescent. The insurance company who is paying for treatment wants to check me out.

Curriculum vitae is a resume with a college education. More or less a record of your career, including education, experience in the field, etc.

You should be able to find some examples on the web. Ah, here's one now:

Resume Writing Tips for Preparing A Curriculum Vitae

quote:
Who Needs A Curriculum Vitae?
A curriculum vitae is often required for those applying to graduate or professional programs, employment with international firms, or when promoting oneself within professional and academic fields.

How Does a Curriculum Vitae Differ From A Regular Resume?
A curriculum vitae is longer than the average 1-2 page resume because it provides a greater range of information which can include:

Professional, Vocational or Research Objective
Summary of Qualifications
Professional Licenses or Certifications
Education including Post Graduate, Graduate and Undergraduate Degrees and Studies
Listing of Relevant Course work to Match Career or Academic Objective
Educational or Professional Honors or Awards
Scientific or Academic Research, Laboratory Experience and Related Skills
Description of Thesis or Dissertation, Papers Written, Publications
Academic or Professional Presentations
Related Extracurricular Activities, Professional and Association Memberships
Community Involvement
Work Experience - Paid or Volunteer
Technical and Specialized Skills such as Computer Progamming or Laboratory Instrumentation
Interests - Future Academic or Professional Goals
Travel / Exposure to Cultural Experiences
Foreign Language Skills
Additional Information that May Support Objective or Qualifications

Tons more out there, just search curriculum vitae example.

Oh, dear. Methinks I shall have to add some more detail. Under "Education", I simply listed the degree and diplomas that I hold, without adding courses specific to my field. Back to the drawaing board! I stayed up way too late last night trying to put this together for today. Perhaps this needs a little more thought/work?

P.S. It can/should be more than one page, yes? My resume mindset dictates that one page is best.

I think two pages is pretty standard, though people with less experience/education may opt for only one.

If you read the site I posted, you would see they believe a curriculum vitae is/can be much longer than a resume.

As I said in a prior post, the curriculum vitae is a resume with a college education, and that is probably a reasonable description.

A resume could be used for any job posting. a curriculum vitae is intended for professional positions.

Thus, it contains a lot of information that would not be included in a resume.

As posted, that information could include current research, professional associations, list of publications, etc.

I guess you just have to think of that information relevant to the job offering, and present it, regardless of whether that's one page or a dozen.

steffie,
A cv usually takes some time to put together. It should provide the reader with a good idea of what steffie has done in terms of education, work experience, public service and volunteering etc. Think carefully and identify every relevant experience you may have for this position.

-every course/lecture you have taken
-any certificates etc.
-any public speaking experiences you have
-every volunteer experience
-publications/book reviews
-projects etc

My point is that your cv should be exhaustive and really speak to the reader. The key is to update your cv every month.

Thanks! I'm thinking of posting it online (not on a job, but personal blog). But, which one....?

Yes, and Yes! This is where the real work occurs.

I'm up to 2 pages and with my brain-scouring I have recalled many worthy credentials that I had temporarily "forgotton", or had never really acknowledged in the first place.

I realize I look damned good on paper. It appeases that starving place that gets validated with academic/professional success.

I'm grateful for this opportunity to expand my sense of self-worth. (And my fluency in Word.

Can somebody advise me whether/how to post CV on lj?
