Had an observation taday. Saw A long grey bearded guy unfashionably dress guy crossing the street in Scarborough today. He had a fishing pole and a big smile.(maybe a bit prejudice..but he looked like a street dweller) The thought was that that the idea of turning these hobo's into breifcase carrying or boxlifting proud productive citizens....is all wrong. An outdoor life aint all that bad in fact there are many positives that should be supported and in fact built upon.

Maybe he was just an old guy who goes fishing but has a house. The homeless don't all look homeless or vice-versa. It's also a big mistake to think that real homeless people generally don't want housing.

We can all find one "hobo" here or there who seems or even claims to be happy living outdoors, in the street, in the cold, set on fire by drunken hooligans, refused service at Tim Hortons, and dealing with multiple physical and mental ailments---and, he hasn't changed his underpants in three months.

We can find such homeless persons if we look hard enough for them. But, all I have to do is step outside my apartment building and I can find twenty or more homeless persons in the immediate area who aren't happy living the idealized happy hobo life that you seemed to be refering to above.

Most homeless persons I have known want to be "normal", that is, have a work-a-day job, even a boring one, a clean a room and bed, and food on a regular basis.

A bit of prejudice? It seems that someone being "unfashionably" dressed is enough for you to presume that he is a street dweller. Do you really think that that qualifies as "a bit" of prejudice? I hate to break this to you, but I've been employed most of my adult life, have had a leard for much but not all of that time, and have more than enough friends willing to comment on my lack of fashion senasability. Do those facts make me a "street dweller"?
