The most interesting thing is hearing the opinions of various Palestinians about their own situation, and the larger political context with Israel and the rest of the world. Other than that, the author is prone to baseless conclusions, and in spite of his feigned objectivity, continually views the opinions of his counterparts through an unsympathetic lense. DFLP are "crackpots", Palestinian opinion is "crazily contradictory", Hamas are only "Islamist" terrorists, thugs and people who won't make eye-contact with him. Americans just want peace and no terrorism and no Hamas - nice people that they are. Presented with an oppurtunity to elucidate the nuanced picture drawn by his interviewees, or penetrate the supposed paradoxes of opinion found in polls of Palestinians, he fails to cast off his own ideological blinders and get "up close and personal" with his subects, well-meaning as he may be. Another view of Palestine: quote: Innocent Palestinian people are being treated like animals, with the presumption that they are guilty of some crime. Because they voted for candidates who are members of Hamas, the United States government has become the driving force behind an apparently effective scheme of depriving the general public of income, access to the outside world and the necessities of life. Overwhelmingly, these are school teachers, nurses, social workers, police officers, farm families, shopkeepers, and their employees and families who are just hoping for a better life.
