When you were a kid, what'd you think you'd end up doing as an adult? How close to the truth was it?
Me? I thought I'd be a dancer. I ended up a sign language interpreter/writer.

I was always pretty sure I was going to be an Astronomer or Space Scientist. Star Wars, and then Carl Sagan's Cosmos series really captured my attention.

I wanted to be an actress -- no points for originality, eh? Actually, until I was about twelve, I was an actress. I was that annoying little kid who was always organizing the other kids into putting on a show -- in which I inevitably had the starring role. No points for modesty.
Still, I had a little force back then. What happened? North American high-schoolhood. Those years when most annoying little girls with character get their personalities tidied up and ironed out and completely destroyed, so that they come out all sweet and simpering and soft-spoken and deferential. I know, I know, one can struggle back -- but some of that training never goes away.

Amen, skdadl. (slightly ot: a friend of mine has a little on-line clothing business going. I've ordered from her a black tank top with the word "BITCH" written across the front in bold lettering. I guess I'm finally recovering from my nice-girl conditioning. )
Back on topic:
From my earliest memories I've wantd to be a missionary and a writer in equal measure. Well, I became a witch, so the missionary thing is out; but the ideological fervour has transfered quite nicely to my political passions as they've developed since that point. Until quite recently I was an Environmental Planner, but I'm now rewriting my life to bring it more in line with those two goals.

When I was a kid I used to think about being a biologist, but my squeamishness about doing dissections in school meant that I had to switch my love of science to chemistry and physics (which actually was a good thing, in the end, because those two sciences have a lot of abstract theory that's fun to learn, as opposed to the always-concrete-application world of biology - not that I don't like the engineering aspect of my education, but I feel that there has to be a proper fusion of theory and practice. I digress, however)
At this point though, I've decided to aim for becoming a high school teacher.

I wanted to be an Indian but when I had a grade 5 teacher that informed me that I would have to be born an Indian. My all time dream was to be a veteranarian until I became aware that I would be working on cows and dogs. Now I spend my days grinding out retainers and night guards for dentists. It was fun for the first few years but after the 10,000th appliance my job is not much better than assembly line work, but at least it pays well.

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a:
- Police Officer (shudder) - Private Eye (Magnum was SO cool!) - Parapsychologist (I saw Ghostbusters a few too many times) - Fighter Pilot (Ditto Top Gun)
I'm now a temp media relations dude who shoots short films on the side.
