What a convoluted story this seems to be.
quote:
Police say an Ashwaubenon man charged with trying to sell his 18-month-old daughter was on his way to a Grand Chute home to deliver the girl when he was arrested.Police say he was asking for $7,000 to sell his daughter.
The complaint does not explain why Vu allegedly tried to sell his daughter, but at a news conference earlier Friday, police and prosecutors said he was hoping to use the money to make home improvements.
It's weird, because when I saw this on the subway news monitor this morning, all it said was something like, "Wisconsin man tries to sell daughter for $7000 to pay for home improvements."
I was, of course, rather horrified at the thought and came home and looked for the story, which turned out to be a bit more nuanced than that, considering that there might be language misunderstanding issues involved, etc. Although, if they have a tape recording of the guy telling them to pay him part of the $7,000 now and the rest later, didn't want to get attorneys involved, and the mother of the child was apparently not involved...I don't know, that doesn't look good, does it?
