Long dreamt of, has been a bridge linking Africa and Europe. Now, after 20 years of procrastination, Cadiz officials have approached the controversial American architect, Eugene Tsui to submit his design dubbed the "Afro-tunnel" and involving 14.5 kilmometres of bridges and tunnels and a floating island five kilometres wide."The move has, however, horrified many in southern Spain - including British expatriates - who fear that a bridge would lead to a huge surge in illegal immigration from Africa."
The architect claims that 150 wind turbines and 80 tidal turbines would pay for the project many times over.
With the oft-repeated argument that much-increased use of electric vehicles would overcome grid capacity and the call for more dam mega projects, this architect's power generating proposal is worthy of separate discussion.

This posting is not to suggest that all who object to this linking project are bigots but poses the question in general terms.
