She had no desire to be just another smiling face in Italian politics. So when porn star Milly D'Abbraccio designed her campaign posters, it was obvious she was going to show off her bottom.

Targeting her male fan base, the veteran of Italy's adult entertainment industry has plastered images of her derriere all around the Eternal City in a bid to win a seat in Rome's city hall.

If elected, D'Abbraccio wants to create a red light area with strip clubs, erotic discos and sex shops called "Love City" just kilometers away from the Vatican.

That's awfully cheeky of her. I hope she gets around to developing good public policy and doesn't just flaunt her assets for personal gain.

I think careful scrutiny will reveal a hole in her argument.

Vladimir Luxuria she isn't. (Luxuria is a transgender person, and an MP for Rifondazione comunista who is very outspoken on LGBT rights). This is just a recycling of pornstar Cicciolina's campaign back in the 1980s.

Making politics a big joke is fundamentally reactionary, and plays into the hands of Silvio Berlusconi and other corrupt pols.

gawd, no -- let's not let politics be any fun!
young people might tune out their IPhone/Facebook a minute and pay attention to those passing Rhinos !!

anyways, Italy is surely the only country where having porn stars and strippers running for higher office is seen as old hat

Luxuria made politics LOTS of fun - and really pissed off the right - they wanted to designate a separate toilet for her.

But she also had serious things to say about the rights of LGBT people.
