It's important not to forget this injustice, nor close down the previous thread just because those who invariably support Iran would prefer to derail it.

quote:
TEHRAN, Iran - Iran has sentenced eight women and one man convicted of adultery to death by stoning, activists said Sunday.

A lawyer and women's rights activist, Shadi Sadr, said the nine, who are between 27 and 50 years old, were convicted of adultery in separate cases in different Iranian cities. Trial protocol was not applied properly in the cases, she said.

Six of the nine were convicted based solely on judges' decisions with no witnesses or the presence of their lawyers during their confessions, said Sadr, who has been leading a campaign in Iran against stoning deaths.

Please name those who invariably support Iran. I haven't noticed anyone maybe you could be a bit clearer. The rest of us will just sit at home and repeat your mantra that is remarkably similar to the Republican party line. Iran bad, Iran evil, Iran bad, Iran evil, Iran bad, Iran evil.

So what are the western powers waiting for lets bomb the fuck out of Iran because after all Iran bad and ergo that must mean Iranian's bad so who cares. I know this can work it was done not long ago. Iraq bad, Iraq evil Iraq bad Iraq evil. Let the bombing begin immediately because we cannot let the Iranians get away with human rights abuses.

Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb Iran (my apologies to the Beach Boys)

So jeff, what do you think the penalty for adultery should be in Iran?

While we're at it, could you suggest a complete criminal, ethical, and religious code? These people obviously need professional assistance.

To be fair, I don't see how elaborating on injustices in certain regions necessarily equates to willfully ignoring them in our own society, as part of some attempt to disseminate 'republican ideology.' There should be latitude for all discussions of this nature. Although equally as fair, the subject matter has enough merit of its own as a topic of discussion, without the bait added on.

I want to know whether the opening poster is objecting to the death penalty, or to punishing adultery.

Is that ok, Slumberjack?

Well then, by all means continue. It works for me either way, because if the last thread is any indication, shouldn't be long at all before Oldgoat does his stand up routine again, and I do find him highly entertaining.

Don't we have a rule against starting multiple threads with the same post? Something about spam?

Especially when it's just a case of trolling for a reaction so that the thread starter can then jump on people for "invariably supporting Iran"?

Even more of a mystery is why house would think that the people he variously calls Stalinists, communists, Marxists, etc. are big fans of the theocratic regime in Iran? Does house actually think Iran is a "communist" country? Maybe he should consult with some of his fellow pro-Obama co-thinkers in the CPUSA to see what they have to say about the Iranian government.

I think the story itself is worthy of posting, regardless of the fact that the person who originally posted is simply cynically using it, and the people involved, to ride his favourite hobby horse.

Perhaps better to just go with the story aspect and ignore the context?
