Russia's new green party elects leader
Jun 5, 2005, 18:14 GMTMoscow, 5 June: Aleksey Yablokov, president of the Environmental Policy Centre, has been elected chairman of the new party, the Russian Union of Greens (Green Russia). He was the only candidate for the post.
The decision was taken at the party's constituent congress in Korolev, Moscow Region, held on Sunday [5 June].
More than 200 delegates from 62 regions of the country took part in the congress. [Passage omitted]
The delegates elected the political council of the party, which numbers 15 people, including the chairman.
Party chairman Yablokov has told Interfax he will have three deputies: Bellona environmental organization activist Aleksandr Nikitin, head of the Moscow environmental organization union Andrey Frolov, and green movement leader from Saratov Olga Pitsunova. [Passage omitted]
