I haven't heard so much about this lately (I notice this article, the first that came up on a google search, is four years old). Are people still doing it?

I ask because a few weeks ago, when I was in a 7-11 buying a paper, some young guy came in and asked the clerk, "Hey, have you got that new blue [brand name of gum redacted] that everyone's talking about?"

My hackles went up. Who talks like that, except someone working for Viral Marketers?

Not so much. It was 2:30 in the afternoon on a moderately busy commercial strip, MacLeod Trail, but there were only three or four other people in the place.
