BOOM, 1st page, top and centre, well, not top

this !!, which turns out to be from the
website of the Topfree Equal Rights Association which seems to be a women's advocacy group.

So I think to myself; self, is this legit feminism ? So now I'm asking those who'd know.

Hmm... The issue is definetely legit. Lots of feminists, like me, would prefer a society where breasts are not as sexualized as they are currently and we could be as free as men to go topless.

BUT, why the hell is the coordinator of this organization a man? The only woman listed as a director has the title of "advisor"??? I'm very into men bing involved in feminist issues and have lots of male friends who are proud to call themselves feminists, but this kind of issue brings to mind the saying "sisters doing it for themselves". In my eyes, the organization won't be credible until it is directed my women (at least a majority). Similarly, I think any anti-circumcision group headed by women would be questionned as to why men aren't playing a larger role, since it is their issue, foremost.

It's not that I disagree, but I won't be going topless until 1) the temperature goes up above 26 C and 2) all manner of stinging and biting insects have become extinct.
I also wonder about the 'how' of desexualizing breasts.

Could there be a 'not worksafe' warning in the thread title, for those of us who babble at work??

Yeah, SaraM, I too wondered about the number of men in executive positions. Though as I went through the site, the writers and activists seemed to be almost exclusively women. And certainly there doesn't appear to be any bias towards "attractive breasts". The issues seem to be freedom, equality, and to some extent breast feeding. So, I dunno, but that's why I asked.

I think there was a discussion that overlapped on this several months ago here. And there I reported an experience of seeing a woman exercising her equal rights in a very public place, one that we could almost expect to be quite "leering", and I was very surprised and impressed at the lack of reaction. So I think there's reason to hope that we are maturing that way.
