It's no secret: Black Canadians vote primarily Liberal in federal elections. On January 23, before we instinctively mark an “x” beside the Liberal candidate, let's look at the effects of some Liberal policies on Black Canadians over the last 12 years. The results may cause you to ask: should our community continue to support the Liberal Party?

Thought provoking article with some some great statistics. There is only one party that really supports protecting & strenghtening our social safety net. The NDP will not form the government, but they may be in a position to have a great influence on what that government does. Equally important, they may have a great influence on what a new Conservative government does not dare to try.
The economic disparity in this country is huge and getting worse by the day. Liberals have allowed this to happen, Conservatives love it and want it accelerated. Is it any wonder that we have a growing gang/crime problem amoung our poor and visible minority youth?
The one place that we have equality is in the right to cast a ballot and affect our own futures (excluding the homeless who are facing systemic marginalization), yet low income Canadians are often amoung the least likely to vote. Think first about whose interests each of the major parties really serve, then vote. Don't do it for any politician or party, do it for yourself. It's important!

Most babblers are not Black (or Liberal supporters) and really can't answer the question posed. Also, it was asked in mid-election campaign and may have swiftly fallen off the first page of posts.

Looks like I should never vote for the NDP again. What have they done for white people lately?

Try again...

No, all people benefitted from those things. Doing the right thing should be for the benefit of all Canadians, not the "black" or "white" or whatever colour Canadian you can think of....

There are special needs which arise out of historical oppression which must be dealt with. You cannot generalize overcoming hundreds of years of oppression.

Well, yeah, Gir, everybody did benefit from those things. And there have been a lot of policies that were instituted for the benefit of peoples of color that ended up being to the good of all. Official encouragement of multiculturalism would be one, because it exposed white Canadians to the many positive and worthwhile things other cultures have to offer and gave those white Canadians the chance to learn and grow as human beings asa a result.
There are many other cases as well.

What this thread is saying, I think, is that there may not be much reason for black Canadians to automatically give their support to the Liberal Party, especially since the Liberals haven't always been that committed to an antiracist or a progressive agenda. For example, if I have this correctly, the Liberals were the last of the three federalist parties to nominate and elect black MP's.
