Brothers and Sisters,

My Union is currently embroiled in a bitter dispute in Brooks, AB with Tyson Foods. The workers there have certified the UFCW, and are now trying to get a first contract.

A strike vote was taken (70.1% in favour) and a strike was about to commence when the provincial government stepped in and imposed a 60 day waiting period for a Disputes Inquiry Board to try and solve the situation with non binding mediation.

I would be interested in any advice or information from anyone who has had the misfortune of dealing with Tyson Foods, either in Canada or the US. We are in tough, the strike will probably be taking place between September 15 and October 1, depending on what happens with the DIB. If anyone has anything that might help us out here, I would be happy to hear from you.

slimpikins, I have no helpful expertise to offer you, but as a lover of Brooks, Alberta, I send you sororal greetings to pass on to your fellow workers.

In solidarity.
