Like many MEC members, I rarely participate in the activities of the co-op (beyond buying gear, that is). Especially after the striking-sock-factory incident a few years ago...

This year, though, my friend and fellow Ottawa-area activist Bob Thomson is running for the Board of Directors. Voting ends April 4, so I thought I'd post a shameless plug for Bob's candidacy and encourage babblers who are MEC members to participate in the elections.

Bob is a hard-working activist who puts a great deal of energy into the projects he takes on. In addition to his work on fair trade (which he describes in his candidate statement) Bob is active in a number of groups here in Ottawa, including the Witness Group, which monitors police actions at protests.

Bob's work on fair trade and his commitment to corporate social responsibility would be a great asset to the MEC board.

here's Bob's site:

Voting ends April 4th. If you didn't receive an elections package in the mail you can get a PIN number and vote online if you call the Member Services number (800.474.7704). For more info on the elections and to check out all the candidates, visit http://www.mec.ca
