The membership has spoken, and have decided that the terms of settlement do not meet their needs, and they are willing to fight for more," says UFCW 1518 President Ivan Limpright. "We are prepared for a strike and we are all in this together, and will continue to stand together in the fight for a contract that meets the needs of our members."

"Should the company decide they want to return to the bargaining table the Union Negotiating Committee will meet with them, day or night," he said.

I second your sentiment, Pogo. This has been a tough industry for workers in the last many years.

I just don't understand how they can be offering jobs that start at $8 in this market.

One of my sons worked there for awhile and he quit to go to the non-union Home Depot because they paid better and had better benefits and he got more hours. As well Save on has a casual category of employees that get this kind of screwing for years.

It doesn't make sense to me either except as a way to make the union irrelevant and eventually decertified. Why pay union dues when they get you less of everything than at non-union retail outlets?

I always thought that workers with a boss like Jim Pattison needed a union most of all.

Save-on is continuously trying to claw back everything that those workers have. The only thing holding them back from enacting their plan is the union.
