Countries like New Zealand that Might have the Guts to Stand up to America at the United Nations

i am asking myself, what could possibly happen at this point to stop Israel and the US from escalating their war on Muslims, by attacking Iran ?

i am not advocating that Iran should have nukes.

However, when it comes to killing civilians and spreading nuclear waste all over the country-side, the US has done a 1000 times more damage than Iran.

i am not concerned about a nuclear Iran. i am concerned about a nuclear America, and their proxy warrior, Israel.

admittedly, to think that any group of nations would stand up to the US at the United Nations, to acknowledge American war crimes, and to propose sanctions on the US, is a bit of a "Hail Mary" pass, to use the football term.

on the other hand, a lot of nations are breathing the dust, the toxic radioactive dust, that America is spreading all over the mid-East. i know that many of those countries' leaders are Horrified at how the United States has morphed into a (looking for the right word) during Bush-Cheney's tenure.

to start the list, i would mention 3 countries -
* New Zealand, because i believe they have said "no" to the US about nuclear weapons.
* Russia
* China, with about $200 Billion worth of contracts with Iran and a lot of investments there.

geographically, Russian and China are neighbors of Iran. they will be breathing the toxic fumes when America and/or Israel attack Iran.

if the United Nations has any moral purpose, it is to stand up to nations that are behaving the way the United States has.

a UN resolution condemning the US, even a failed resolution, is better than doing nothing.

some will make fun of the notion of China, not exactly a human rights model, condemning America for war crimes. let them make fun.

anything that has a real chance to bitch-slap Bush & Cheney, to tell them they're carrying the war thing a little too far, to tell them to get their asses back to the negotiating table, is worth doing.

as far as the US Congress and Senate doing their job, i would say, forget about it. i live in the US, people are in deep states of denial, confusion, and fear - including the elected representatives.

Anyway, who do YOU think has the guts, based on a history of peace, to stage an intervention at this point ?

i would also add Sweden & Norway & Switzerland to the list.

i would have added Germany, until i read that Merkel has jumped on the "condemn Iran" bandwagon.

To their credit, New Zealand did stand up on the nuclear issue however on the economic side David Lange was a total disaster when the US and Eu fought back. Instead of standing his ground he totally sacrificed NZ's social fabric at the alter of neo-liberalism. Here in Canada, I remember W5 saying we had to do the same. Late in the 80's I went to NZ and saw first hand the devastation these policies had on the people.

I think far better examples of nations standing up on all levels for their sovereignty is Venezuela, Bolivia, Cuba, Iran (as much as I dispise their regime), North Korea and Belarus.

In terms of "western" nations, I think Norway would probably come closest because I understand they are the only "western" nation that hasn't bought into the US dollar shakedown. I've heard this but am not sure.

The good news is more nations in Latin America (like Ecuador, Nicaragua and Argentina)are following a more sovereign path and unlike Iran or even North Korea aren't simply replacing one massive army with their own.
