I could see this one going all the way to the European Court of Human Rights and leading to legalization of marriage throughout the EC.

DUBLIN, Ireland (AP) — A lesbian couple who wed last year in Canada should have their marriage recognized by Ireland, a leading constitutional lawyer urged Monday in a petition to the country's second-highest court.

Gerard Hogan said his clients, Louise Gilligan and Catherine Zapaonne, were legally married in British Columbia in September 2003 and had relocated to Dublin, where they wished to file their taxes as a married couple but were refused.

"I'm seeking leave to challenge that decision," Hogan, a constitutional expert at Trinity College Dublin, said in an initial submission to the High Court.
