Happening in Fredericton, NB, on Friday, Sept. 26th. Meet at City Hall at 8 pm. Hosted by the Sexual Assault Crisis Centre.

Does anyone know Take Back the Night's history? Are there any other marches organized in NB, or elsewhere?

There's a Toronto march, also on the 26th. I'll check my local poster at noon and get back with details.

People might be interested in this babble thread from last year, where Take Back the Night became part of a heated argument about men's participation in this forum generally, as well as in actions like Take Back the Night.

I can't give you a precise history of the marches, Candace, but I'm sure they date back to the seventies.

The first Take Back the Night march took place in England in the 1870s. It was women-only. The marches began in North America in the late 70s. The first US one was in San Fransisco in 1978.

I attended my first TBTN march and memorial service in 1988. Toronto. I haven't attended one in several years...I should see if there'll be a London one this week.
