Interesting new Pew Research Poll of Muslim Americans. I would be interested to see what the results would be of a similar poll in Europe. I would guess that there would be much more unrest and alienation registered among European Muslims.

I'd be interested to find what they say about Canada. I bet they're even happier here.

Maybe so. But, I'd guess they'd be pretty close to the USA numbers (and, of course, way ahead of Europe).

ETA:

I'll look for Canadian numbers but the European comparison focuses on the UK, France, Germany and Spain.

ETA II:

"A large majority of Muslim Americans believe that hard work pays off in this society. Fully 71% agree that most people who want to get ahead in the United States can make it if they are willing to work hard."

Very good numbers for Canada, too.

Interesting: In contrast to the UK (22%), France (18%), Germany (18%) and Spain (23%), Muslim Americans only make up 2% of the low-income people in the USA.

Systemic barriers and outright discrimination (direct or construed) against visible minorities in general are much more pervasive in Europe and Canada than in the USA.

In Europe bigotry and xenophobia is mostly an "in your face" phenomenon (at least some honesty there!). In Canada, it is subtle, kind of "discrimination with a smile" as it is known in VM circles (hypocritical). In the USA the legal channels are effective in deterring discrimination. I have seen cases where acts of discrimination in employment were meted with $1M damages for violation of equality rights.

Similar cases in Canada ... $500.
