A picture of one of the longest damn stretch SUVs I ever saw was here, but the link went dead.

Sorry for the double-post, but I just have to say that that picture is not a joke. Such limousines really do exist.

So, in this vein... Why in God's name do we feel like we need to have vehicles that use more gasoline than the entire population of Mexico uses in a year?

We have finally passed the bounds of all sanity in North America.

These stretch limos are big business now for graduations, weddings, etc. We have two or three in Thunder Bay, they cost a lot to use.

That's scary. Not just a stretch limo, but a stretch limo minivan. For all I know, there's a hot tub in it.

It's so very ugly, isn't it? And I don't see any fire escapes from the middle.

How would it turn corners?

Ford isn't happy about these stretch SUVs. Lincoln Town Cars (not to mention Cadillacs) are designed to be stretched. When you stretch a vehicle that hasn't been designed for it you're taking a safety risk. Ford will not guarantee the safety of a stretched SUV.

*plurp* In light of higher gas prices (~70 cents a liter for the last 3 years now), who thinks these things will eventually fade out?

i actually just saw one of those gross things tonight on my way home, and i was absolutely appalled... they almost epitomize what is wrong with this planet.

i'm thinking that they won't fade out any time oon... if gas is already 70c/L, what difference will 90c/L make to people who can afford to rent/buy those things?

I've never seen one of those. But there was this one really obnoxious SUV I saw. It looked like a regular one, but it had these gigantic side flaps to accomodate the wheels, because the guy had put double wheels on the back, as if it were a tractor trailer. It was so obnoxious. And it was pulling into one of the more tony suburban streets in town, not a speck of dirt on the thing, so I assume he uses it to navigate the horrible natural terrain in Kingston: potholes.

Geez.

Well, if they do become too expensive to run, you could live in them.

And there is always those HUGE residential, recreational vehicles - like Winnebagos but much bigger. Forget what they are called.

They do indeed, I have seen one myself... Last time we were in California, couple of years ago, we took a walk past a place where a wedding reception was going on. There it was. We couldn't believe it. I think we took photos, just so people would believe us when we got home.

Unbelievable.
