This scandal is starting to take on a life of its own.

The conservative republican in charge of the Missing and Exploited Children Caucus has now resigned, admitting to having at least written inappropriate things to several male House pages.
(All the texts have not been released, but are supposedly quite explicit).

This gentleman also co-authored a new law, the so-called "Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006" which, along with 18 U.S.C. 2251, makes discussion or solicitation of sexual acts between Foley and any "minor" under the age of 18 would appear to be a criminal offense (see Adam Walsh Act, Sec. 111(14).

For Mr. Foley to actually have sex with someone under 18 would not be a crime. But under his own law, discussing such acts would be a crime.

Maybe he can argue that his own law is unConstitutional, a violation of freedom of speech.

Still, it is always amazing how hypocritical people can be. He's ready to jail others for discussing sex with under 18s, while himself apparently doing the same thing.

Hopefully this will take on more momentum than other inexcusable republican scandals like the Valery Plame incident. I suspect it will because it involves sex, and it is easy to understand, and there's no ambiguity.

The timing of when the Republicans knew about these emails is very important, apparently, because Foley has been very generous to the party recently:

Contributions:

Foley, Mark:

NRCC Incumbent Support Fund, Washington, DC $100,000 7/27/2006 TSF. EXCESS FUNDS

NRCC Incumbent Support Fund, Washington, DC $15,000 4/29/2005 TSF. EXCESS FUNDS

political hush money?

His donation is WAY up.

And what sense are the Republican true believers making out of this?

Well, not much, as usual.

Take this excerpt from FreeRepublic.com's story on the subject:

quote:

Fifty year old United States Congressman.
This is not one of those ultra-lithe freaks seen in gay pride parades.
Remember that next time someone tells you that their 'friend' is one of the 'good gays'.

Words simply do not serve.

It's beyond me.

The biggest peices are from MSN chat logs (not email) and issue now stems from when Republican 'powers' learned of these actions (I guess it's one thing for him to be doing it with nobody aware as it's his fault then, if others know about it and don't do anything, it becomes alot more peoples fault). Long before this reached scandal level, it was known within republican memos that he had some 'inappropriate discussions' with minors, but they completely failed to act on them... Instead taking 'donations' as hush money.

The stir this has caused if huge on American media... Not only was it frontline news, CNN and other news stations had up to 2 hours per day discussing this over the past couple days. It's definately getting alot of spotlight
