Paris Hilton drove her sharpened stiletto heels into John McCain Tuesday, releasing a mock political ad that cast the Republican hopeful "as the oldest celebrity in the world."

"Hey, America, I am Paris Hilton and I am a celebrity, too," says Hilton, dressed in an over-the-top, skimpy leopard-print swimsuit. "Only I am not from the olden days and I am not promising change like that other guy. I am just hot."

I tried to embed the video but I don't think it worked. Can anyone see it?

I thought it was clever but what I found most interesting was that it attacked McCain and (to a lesser extent) Obama.

I guess it's one of those things... you just have to believe and be pure of heart.

No wonder I can't do it.

That's the highest-quality comedy Paris Hilton ever did. She just handed Obama the MTV/idiot swing vote to Obama. Nice going, John!

Ha! That's fabulous! Good on her! It would be hilarious if she actually bought ad space for it on television, but hopefully it'll go so viral that it'll get out all over the mainstream news.

Guys, don't be so naive. Paris is not a bright girl. Someone scripted that video for her (although I like it as well). Her parents, as usual with her antics, must be pissed.

quote:
The John McCain campaign may want to rethink its strategy of attacking Barack Obama by comparing him Paris Hilton, her family has kicked a lot of money to his campaign.

Paris's parents have donated a combined $6,900 to the McCain campaign. The celebutaunt's father Rick gave McCain $4,600 in March, and her mother Kathleen spent her own $2,300 in April.

Oh, of course she probably didn't write it. But she performed it well.

As for her parents, her mother criticized McCain's campaign sharply about the ad, so I doubt she's angry at Paris for this.

The fact her parents never seem to have a problem with anything Paris does is a problem all by itself for another topic somewhere else.

Good though for her parents to be pissed about this. Too bad they never say a word when she is making a complete fool of herself in her public life.

Huh? This commentary, if you want to call it that, makes absolutely no sense, from any perspective. And personally, I believe you were directing that towards Paris, and knew it would not float here, so you put the silly "I mean Obama" onto the end of it.

-------------------------
Good for Paris, to shoot back, and I bet her grandfather had something to do with it, as apparently, he was right furious about McCain using Paris in his attack ads against Obama, and phoned McCain to voice his displeasure.

And I hope it does direct the mindless MTV set towards Obama.

Don't force me to send M.Spector after you, Remind!

You always misjudge me. I meant Obama---that's kind of the whole joke.

I don't know why you would believe she's not bright. She's been phenomenally successful at launching a career from nothing. Her act brings her money and power... notice her fame has been sustained, whereas others like her didn't know how to handle it. I suspect she knows exactly what she's doing.

*****

As for the ad... That's a very clever response from whoever organized it.

What does Obama have to do with this?

As for calling Obama's character into question, ... you must be pretty pleased with yourself to hand out these off-the-cuff condemnations.

Actually, Robespierre, it might be prudent to recognize that calling someone a 'slut' is misogynistic and inappropriate on a progressive board.

Paris Hilton is not smart simply because she is given huge chunks of unearned cash. Paris has no talent. Her entire "career" is attending parties for 300,000 dollars a pop. Usually dancing on tables, making out with whoever doesn't reject her, and being a complete spoilt rotten child with absolutely no respect for herself or others. (Don't make me trot out the racist and homophobic videos of her, along with her video making out with the master of all sleaze, Joe Francis from Girls Gone Wild.)

Powerful career? Please! Kevin Bacon has a powerful career. Reese Witherspoon has a powerful career.

Paris Hilton is a paid spokesperson for whoever has the money.

Edited to add, she didn't make anything out of nothing. She was given a lot of money simply for being a Hilton. Yep, that's a real work ethic.

'Her act.' Ha.

Paris Hilton is the perfect celebrity. She is famous for being famous. She distils American celebrity culture down to its purest form: an image with no original. She is as parodic a celebrity as she is a perfect one.

That's why I love this video. Because by associating Hilton's insubstantial celebrity with the presidency, it demonstrates what political campaigning in America really amounts to: image. 'I am not from the olden days and I am not promising change like that other guy. I am just hot.' She says it and there's nothing behind it. And it's never rang truer. Everyone knows that this election really is just about a guy from the olden days and another guy who talks about hope all the time, but we pretend it's something else. When Paris Hilton starts playing the president game better than its candidates, what hope does democracy have?

CNN is running the Paris Hilton video endlessly, and this morning showed folks distributing (and wearing) t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan "Vote Paris, not old dude".

That is the best political response ad I've ever seen. So funny people want to see it repeatedly.
Far better than anything Obama's People have put up in this tawdry campaign. Whoever wrote this should be hired immediately.
