Hiroshima Day Events in Ottawa, Hamilton, Saskatoon, Victoria, Windsor, Guelph, Halifax, Charlottetown, and Powell River are noted here.Vancouver's is on Friday evening, August 5 (August 6 Japan time.) In Wolfville, Nova Scotia, last month the school newsletter said: quote: Come and join the Valley Children’s Peace Chorus for a performance at a Hiroshima Day Peace Ceremony at Willow Park on Saturday, August 6 at 8:20 p.m. A film will be shown at St. Andrew’s United church, 329 Main Street, Wolfville, while youth make Japanese Lanterns before proceeding to the Duck Pond for the ceremony at dusk. Singers age 6 – 13 are welcome.
In Sydney, the Cape Breton Regional Municipal Council unanimously declared August 6, 2005, an 'Official Day of Remembrance.'Toronto has an excellent site on Hiroshima Day. I would ask the first posters to change the title of the thread. I see no reason to limit Hiroshima Day to the GTA. Or should the 83% of us "beyond the GTA" start a different thread? More on Windsor's event. I've failed to find Montreal's. Lagatta? Port Hope always has a small gathering in a park to remember our special responsibility. The uranium dropped on Hiroshima was mined at Port Radium on Great Bear Lake and refined in Port Hope. The Globe and Mail today says Munitions Minister C. D. Howe boasted in a public statement: quote: "It is a particular pleasure for me to announce that Canadian scientists and Canadian institutions have played an intimate part and have been associated in an effective way with this great scientific development."
For those who don't know C.D. Howe, the "Minister of Everything" was an American who came to Canada as a young engineer and ended up running the Liberal government in "a personal style that was described as no-nonsense, even authoritarian." He was defeated in 1957 by CCF candidate Doug Fisher, who went on to become Tommy Douglas' Deputy Leader from 1963 to 1965. [ 30 July 2005: Message edited by: Wilf Day ]

So, we've got people wanted to "celebrate" Hiroshima Day.Why no "Auschwitz Day"? My guess? American's didn't perpetrate the Auschwitz slaughter. And, it's more fun to beat up on Americans.

"...when your working..."??? Where did you go to school? I've been reading rabble and babble for a long time...
