Forgive me if this is a duplicate, but I couldn't see another thread.

Look at the new design on the rabble.ca home page. I take it that that is in honour of the day?

Hey neat!

I rarely go to Rabble anymore - usually I skip it & go straight to babble. I should make a point of checking the home page more frequently.

Happy Women's Day.

Yes - Happy Women's Day.

Does anyone know how we, um, celebrate?

I just checked the site for events in Canada today and there are a number, but it would appear none in Toronto, unless that entry for the Jamaican-Canadian Association is happening here. You can't tell which town or city is holding several of the events from those entries.

Here is the Montréal march for the 8th of March:

http://ffq.qc.ca/actions/8mars2006.html#marche Rally at 5pm at Émilie-Gamelin (the park next to Berri-UQAM métro) and march at 6pm.

There are many other events: you can consult www.agendamilitant.info , the www.marchemondiale.org World March of Women, the trade union confederation sites etc.

Here in Ottawa, it took me some work to track down the events, but there are a few:

- film showing at Carleton U at 5 pm, Unicentre
- march (starting at 5:30, human rights monument, as I recall, ending at...)
- awareness fair at the Bronson Centre (just north of Bronson and Somerset)
- "Who are we as women" panel and discussion, 475 MacLaren, 7 pm

Me, I decided to skip all that, and invite my strong sisters to my place for a showing of a film (still trying to decide between Norma Rae and Adam's Rib - the Colour Purple was nixed as those with cable had the chance to see it a few weeks ago), and dessert ('cause even with patriarchy, being a woman is sweet!) Probably a sad indication that i don't feel motivated enough for a rally - it doesnt feel like there's all that much to celebrate for the women's movement in Ottawa.

Oh, also, there was a child care rally on Parliament Hill at 10 am this morn. No idea how it went - I was in a meeting.

ceti, where did you get that photo? I want to send it to my Spanish teacher, if possible in a Spanish-language source. She doesn't read English (does read French).

¡Gracias! I've sent it to my friend.

There was a nasty, bone-chilling wind and damp at the demo last night. Some friends were going to a concert after, but I returned home and climbed into bed early.

A leader of the Bread and Roses and World Marches for Women is Québec solidaire candidate in the upcoming by-election in Ste-Marie - St-Jacques. Lots of other "fronts de lutte" but the main thing here is trying to protect our early childhood education/daycare system against the regressive deal between Charest and Harper...
