Call for Volunteers: Women Won't Forget

Women Won't Forget is a group of women who organize the vigil at Philosopher's Walk every year on December 6th to remember the many women who have been victims of male violence.

Volunteers to help organize this year's
events are needed. All are welcome! Meetings take place every other Tuesday of the month at the U of T Women's Centre at 6pm until the day of the event:

Oct. 25
Nov. 8
Nov. 22

Thanks for posting this notice and invitation, bcg.

babblers, women and men both, don't forget either. We've had annual vigils here, sometimes very instructive and moving ones.

It is hard to admit this, but those commemorations have also sometimes drawn a certain amount of hostility out into the open. Well: I said they are often instructive.

It has always heartened me, albeit in this sad and violent context, that the December 6th 1989 massacre has always been framed by feminists within the larger issue of violence against women in society, by groups such as Women Won't Forget and the Dec 6th Fund.

i.e., that women are much more likely to experience violence by someone they know, who they have chosen to have in their lives, than by a stranger.
