40 years after 'Cathy Come Home' - Ken Loach says little has changed
29/11/2006

40 years ago, Britain's top film director, Ken Loach shocked the nation with his drama-documentary 'Cathy Come Home'. The film's first showing on the BBC was watched by a staggering 12 milllion people, and it has often been cited as one of the major factors behind changes in law and social trends in the UK regarding homelessness, unemployment and the rights of mothers to keep their children.

Today (29 Nov), the charity Shelter, reported that a staggering 1.6 million children in Britain suffer 'devastating effects of bad housing and homelessness.' Speaking on the BBC's Today program, Loach, recently re-elected to Respect's National Council reported that little has changed since 'Cathy Come Home' first hit the screen.
