The HEU is reporting a settlement with the Province. Enhanced rights and $75 million.

I say well done!

Awesome. I wish everything the Liberals have done could be reversed like this.

This is excellent news, I wonder how it will affect those who lost their homes, and/or had to declare bankruptcy, from this and the clawback in wages?

Certainly, it will not undo all the damage that has been done. It does not address the issue of clawback and the "savings" from the drastic wage cuts practiced by contractors outweighs the total amount. Nevertheless, "but for" the tenacity shown by the unions involved not even this mitigation would have happened.

The SCC decision does open the door to unfettering the process of collective bargaing and good work has been done to recapture the collective strength that was lost. The contractors' employees have been and continue to be reorganised, workers who decertified to avoid the contracting out of their jobs are returning to their unions and the penetration by CLAC into the sector as a shield for employers is being rolled back. Last month over 500 CLAC members with two employers were successfully liberated.

If the labour movement is given the tools and the monkey is taken off its back, then it will bring the world back into balance. This settlement is a step along that road. The next big step is politial - ridding B.C. of the Gordo Government and regaining balance in labour law, the Labour Board and rational collective bargaining.

The BCGEU release is more comprehensive.
