Today's results from the Austrian state of Steiermark (Styria):OeVP: 38.66% (-8.61%) SPOe: 41.72% (+9.3%) FPOe: 4.59% (-7.84%) [Haider's old party] Green: 4.68% (-.85%) KPOe: 6.32% (+5.29%) BZOe: 1.72% [Haider's new party] Interesting result as Styria has been an OeVP stronghold since 1945, with the SPOe now obtaining power and the Communists entering the Styrian parliament for the first time since 1970. http://www.verwaltung.steiermark.at/cms/ziel/4515211/DE/ [ 02 October 2005: Message edited by: Centrist ]

Haider left the FPOe sometime in April/05, due to infighting, and created the BZOe (the Alliance for Austria's Future), which are also now represented in the OeVP federal coalition along with the FPOe.Austria has simliar political and party structures to neighbouring Germany: OeVP - Austrian Peoples Party (akin to Christian Democrats); SPOe - Social Democrats; FPOe - Freedom Party, historically the liberal party until Haider took them on a far-right populist bent; KPOe - Communist Party [The "Oe" is just another form of writing "O" for Austria (Oesterreich) without the umlaut (two dots on top)]
