Do temporary workers earn the same amount of money as unionized employees do?

That would depend on what it says in the union contract.

I believe temp workers get 1/2 to 1/3 the pay that regular unionized magna employees get, at least according to the CBC last nite

In public sector and in public sector transfer agency collective agreements temp workers tend to get the same pay as permanent workers but not the same benefits.

In my collective agreement in the Federal Public Service, temps get the same pay unless they are classified as students. If they do the same work, same pay basically.

It completely depends on the agreement, as everyone is saying here.

I was never paid the same rate as a regular employee while I was a temp. And that's BOTH public and private sector.
My experience with the public sector is that temps become "casual" employees (if they like you, that is...) who get about the same rate of pay as regular employees without the benefits or any job security.
In the private sector, I worked for several employers who were content to keep me on as a temp indefinitely..I think that has to do with the existence of a collective agreeement or not, and how good it is.
These days, employers of all stripes seem to create as many categories of employees as they can. Kinda like the military, eh? This includes, e.g., where they can beat the current employees into submission and agree to a two-tiered wage system...one wage for the current fools and a lower wage for the incoming fools. Then they gradually (um...attrition anyone?)get rid of the current employees...who come across as greedy, rich, union types. Get it?
