Not crazy about the message in the card, but might be worth doing. What do others think?

quote:
Show Her That She Was Right This Mother's Day

Help women around the world this Mother's Day by donating a suggested minimum of $25 to UNIFEM. Your mother will receive a beautiful Mothers' Day card in your name and you'll receive a charitable receipt and the good feeling that comes from making the world a better place.

The card reads, "Dear Mom, You taught me right from wrong, which star to wish upon, that I can be whatever I want to be, and to care about other people - not just myself. This year instead of the gifts I usually give you on Mother's Day I've made a donation in your name to the United Nations Development Fund for Women, so they can help mothers all over the world do as good a job as you did. I love you."

Please call UNIFEM at 1.866.780.4260 from 12 pm - 8 pm UNITED NATIONS DEVELOPMENT FUND FOR WOMEN - CANADA
Suite 300 - 309 Cooper Street, Ottawa Ontario, K2P 0G5

At the heart of UNIFEM Canada's work is our financial support of programs that strengthen women's economic capacity, give women a real say in governance and leadership and also promotes women's human rights by working to eliminate all forms of violence against women. Projects include: aid for the millions of women and girls afflicted with HIV/AIDS, training workshops on gender-based human rights and speaking out on the plight of women and girls who are victims of rape and enslavement in civil conflicts.

It's a nice, caring gesture, and I applaud it. However, I suggest that a person still get their mother a little something to celebrate all that she has given, herself, over the years.

Also, if the card says that the person made a donation in his or her mother's name, why is it that the person receives the receipt for income tax purposes. Shouldn't the mother receive it?
