Mennonite Pastor and human rights activist Nguyen Hong Quang has been wrongly accused of crimes in Vietnam and recently sentenced to 3 years in prison. (His major crimes are not belonging to one of the state-approved Churches and speaking out in favour of human rights). His case is being followed not only by the Mennonite Church, but also by PEN Canada and other groups. If, having read some of the linked material, you wish to send an e-mail to the Vietnamese embassy in Ottawa, you can do so at [email protected]. Please consider it.

PEN Canada says this on their site:

quote:

PEN Canada protests the three-year prison sentence handed down to Nguyen Hong Quang. We consider him to be detained in violation of his right to freedom of expression and association as guaranteed by the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), to which Vietnam is a signatory, and call for his immediate and unconditional release.
