It says quite a bit that CNN files a story like this under "offbeat" news.

I agree. I'm more surprised this happened in the US. There must be more to the story. Perhaps the management had a guilty conscience and was making up for past behaviuor?

I know in the dental products manufacturing company I work at wage increases and bonus' are non existant. Like the shoe manufacturing industry, it's piece work.
