(Toronto)) Feisty pop singer Pink is making no apologies for her new video for Stupid Girls, in which she bashes a group of young starlets who she says perpetuate "the conveyor-belt (of) mindless consumerism" in the entertainment industry.

"Jimmy crack corn and I don't care," the blond artist, whose real name is Alecia Moore, said with a laugh in an interview about the possibility of negative reaction to the recently released video.

"I've never had a problem being burned alive for my feelings."

[...]

Pink, 26, sings over the song's reggae/ska/latin grooves, "What Happened to the dream of a girl president? She's dancing in the video next to 50 Cent."

"I feel like so many women have been out there fighting for our independence and our equality and to further our rights, and girls like this come along and wipe out all of our progress and they push this size zero image that's unattainable for the average person," said Pink, who is also seen in the video getting an orange, spray-on tan sported by the likes of Hilton and Simpson, and lying on a plastic surgery table.

"No girl needs any more reasons to think that her boobs aren't big enough (because of) this mindless, unquestioning consumerism. 'Shop, shop, shop. Don't contribute. Don't think, it's not sexy. Smart and sexy are oil and water. You have to dumb yourself down to be cute.'

"I have a lot of feelings on the subject and I don't like it, so I speak my mind and everybody can hate me, and some won't and some will."

My fave bit though, was this shot...

Hilton has been quoted by U.S. media as saying Pink - who hasn't had a record out since November 2003 - is just using her and other celebrities to make a musical comeback, to which Pink retorted in the interview, "Spell it. Spell comeback!"

I saw that video. It's kind of weird that she puts herself as the woman dancing beside 50 cent.

Pink has been a guilty pleasure of mine since the summer she managed to get three of her songs stuck in my head. She writes decent pop songs and she's honest. Out-there artist "Peaches" said she was the real deal.

I guess, while she's a nice-looking young woman (ie., who can imitate a rap-video dancer), she's saying that she's not the sort who would adopt an "air-head" persona or surgically alter herself for somebody else's approval.

More about the video:
quote:
Pink's surrounded by superficiality, and includes references to Paris Hilton's sex tape, Jessica Simpson's music videos, Mary-Kate Olsen's boho shopping sprees and Lindsay Lohan's car crashes. Pink reenacts them all as parody, falling off the hood of a soaped-up car and later crashing into pedestrians while on her cell phone, bothered only by the fact that it distracts her from applying more lip gloss. She shops at Fred Segal, buys a little accessory dog (touted to "stay younger longer") and tries to throw up in the restroom after boasting how few calories she can subsist on.

...

Throughout the vignettes, a little girl sits holding her Barbie doll and channel surfs between TV shows on etiquette lessons and a political campaign (with Pink at the lectern). A Pink angel and a Pink devil appear on either side of her shoulders, planting thoughts in the girl's head to pull her in different directions, causing her to wonder along to Pink's lyrics, "Maybe if I act like that? ... Push up my bra like that?"

Ultimately she decides, "I don't want to be a stupid girl," and forgoes her Barbie doll to play with a football instead.

I can take or leave Pink's music (although I will always be fond of "I'm Coming Up" from cha-cha lessons at ballroom dancing...) but I do like her style.

Classic!

We should all be thankful for Paris Hilton. She's living proof that someone can have every advantage in life and still wind up as a piece of trash.

Paris Hilton: not exactly the brightest bulb on the tree:

quote:
In her deposition, Paris is asked about a companion that night whose first name was Terry. When asked if she knew his last name, Paris replied: "It is like a weird Greek name. Like Douglas."

Paris was also asked if she was aware that the article had been republished in various newspapers. Graff's lawyer, Paul Berra, asked, "Were there U.K. publications?" Hilton responded: "No... there is stuff in London." Paris' lawyer, Larry Stein, jumped in: "London is a U.K. publication." Paris' retort: "Right. U.K. Whatever."

Paris swore she never saw a republication of the article: "I was in Europe the whole summer, and all there is like French -- I didn't see anything because I wasn't in America."

I am completely out of the present pop culture loop. Pretty sure I have no music from later than the early '90s. Having said that, this video sounds like fun. Does anyone know where I can download it? I don't have a TV. I also have no idea who Pink is, btw.

You can see the video by going to www.youtube.com and typing "pink" in the search engine. It's the second one down, I think.

I dunno, I kinda like Pink. Some of her music isn't my style, but I like how she mixes it up and stuff. I really like this song. It reminds me of her old tune, "Most Girls", where she was trying to encourage anti-materialism and whatnot.

I think it's good that she puts herself in the video as the 50-Cent dancer and all the other roles. To me, she's sorta saying "Look, I can do this. ANYONE can act this way, it's easy to shake your ass around. But I DON'T do this. You can choose to NOT. It doesn't require any sort of skill or crazy, admirable technique to be a scuzzbag."

I'm new, by the way. Hello!
