Anti-WEF snowball fight!

An anti-WEF demonstrator reaches for a Swiss riot police officer with a feather duster during a protest against the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos January 27, 2007.

those Swiss riot officers look a lot like the guys in the white costumes in Star Wars.

then again, i guess a lot of those officers are just people who needed a job. it's the people on the inside of the conference who are criminal.

my guess is, the people on the inside don't mind having 2 groups of mostly working class people expending their energy battling each other on the outside. it might even make them laugh.

i'm not saying the protesters are wasting their time.

I don't believe that. Many of them take pleasure in their "job" and they don't mind stepping on human rights so the fascists need never see a protestor.

I think there's some truth in that, that jobs where any amount of authority is concerned tend to attract people who seek it.

If the only reward for becoming a cop or soldier for authority-seekers was the job itself, then I think they'd be short of soldiers and cops. I think it's why militaries in Canada and U.S. are pressured to offer publicly-funded post-secondary education, a pension plan, job training, and decent pay compared to what's offered in our low wage private sector economy. And there are young Canadians with college diplomas, trade tickets, degrees and multiple degrees in policing and military jobs because what the private sector offers does not appeal to them.
