hi, I'm an editor of an online Brit zine, and I'm hoping to start a new feature regarding feminism ie "Reasons I'm a feminist", really I'm looking for anyone who has any ideas on feminism and what it means to her (or him) and how it colours their lives. the site is at www.batterythinkers.com so check it out, and if anyone has any ideas or suggestions as well as any contributions get in touch!
Cheers!

Your link has a comma in it, ellie*. You might want to correct it.

I am a feminist because the world, run by men, is going to hell in a handbasket.

I am a feminist because women hold up half the sky and only own ten percent of the land.

I am a feminist because it has helped me make sense of my life.

I am a feminist because I hate patriarchy.

Feminism, for me, is the missing piece of the puzzle (though no longer missing now.)

You learn about history in a certain way, and you absorb certain information about current events in the media, but one day you wake up and realize that your experience and the way you perceive the world are so completely disconnected from the 'official version' of life that if you don't learn about feminism somehow, you live the rest of your life with half of the puzzle.

That is confusion. And confusion is depressing.

Strangely enough, it was my father who first told me that history is always written by the winner. Of course, that applies to many wars and battles throughout 'official' history, but at the time I didn't quite understand the full meaning of it.

BTW Judes, as you know there's a great article about you in the Sep-Oct edition of La Gazette des Femmes: L'urgence de "parler à nos filles." It's very, very well done; 3 full pages and it covers a lot of issues.

including:
"...elle trouve le temps de publier sur le Net l'irrévérencieux et populaire magazine indépendant rabble.ca."

The article unfortunately isn't available online, but here's their website: Gazette des femmes

I I am a feminist because I can't imagine life would be worth living if I wasn't. I am a feminist because I have children and grandchildren and I refuse to leave them trapped in the mess the world has become. I can see and have lived the incredible changes made in the past thirty years and I want MORE of the same kind of changes to happen for them, and for all people.

I am a feminist because it's the next logical progression: my grandfather fought all his life for trade union principles, and feminism is how I support his work and make my own life relevant.
