Middle East hasn't turned out the way Bush, Rice predicted

Oh well. Live and learn. Maybe they'll do better in Iran. Or Lebanon. No, wait -- Syria.

From a distance it's like a Monty Python sketch.

Up close it's just gruesome.

If this keeps up they'll have to return to invading Grenada just so they can finally get a new "mission accomplished" photo op.

Speaking of Iraq, although we've grown de-sensitised to the carnage, yesterday's destruction was truly gut wrenching:
Wednesday: 238 Iraqis, 2 GIs Killed

quote:
A second day of increased violence followed the executions of Saddam’s half-brother and the former head of Iraq’s Revolutionary Court. At least 238 Iraqis were killed or found dead today and 118 were injured. The U.S. military also reported on the deaths of two American soldiers; one GI was wounded in a separate incident. Three British soldiers were wounded in Basra. Also killed were an American, a Hungarian and a Croatian working for a U.S. aid group. Two more foreigners were killed in Biji.

Yep things are going really well (at least when the media ignores "bad news" stories like these).

I guess this time they will actually find an intelligent pretext, like I dunno, Iran building an football-field military airport in Grenada
Operation Urgent Folly would be a good title.

Speaking of interfering (i.e. invading and destroying) the affairs of other countries, a deal as just been reached (at least according to the original article posted by FM):

quote:
The six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council, along with Egypt and Jordan, issued a statement calling for respect for "the principle of noninterference" in other countries' affairs. Iran wasn't mentioned, but a U.S. official, who followed diplomatic protocol and spoke only on the condition of anonymity, said it was the target of the statement. (The council comprises Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.)

Too bad the "US official" didn't tell the other delegates this was about Iran. Those other guys are probably flying home saying they just got the US to agree to a policy of non-interference.

Democracy to the US means compliant middle eastern governments willing to brutalize if necessary, any domestic elements that do not submit to being controlled by US led transnational interests.
