Daniel Pipes has it all wrong. I heard that when Obama was three years old he used to love blintzes. His name sounds a bit, you know, Jewish and he has a few semitic features yet he denies being Jewish despite the fact that I'm pretty sure he had an ancestor on his mother's side who was Jewish and, as Judaism is passed through the mother he must be Jewish too. A crypto-Jew, just like Barry Goldwater and Eisenhower (who changed his name from David Dwight Eisenhower to Dwight David Eisenhower because "David Eisenhower" would just be too obvious). I'm not Obama saying he can't be trusted because he's Jewish, but he can't be trusted because he's hiding the fact.

I'm being satirical here but this shameful whisper campaign against Obama reminds me of past whisper campaigns against people who had "Jewish sounding names" or Jewish ancestry etc but who, because of anti-semitism, had either converted to Christianity or did not publicly acknowledge their Judaism - something that only resulted in the charge of being a "crypto-Jew".

Just how desperate is Pipes to scrape the bottom of the barrel?

For god's sake - he was registered, in grade one, in a Catholic school (this in a largely Muslim country no less) and Pipes somehow turns this into evidence that Obama, at the age of 4 was a devout Muslim?

I dunno. Somehow I think if his family was as devoutly Muslim as Pipes claims they wouldn't have put him in a Catholic school but that's just me.

And of course the real travesty of this is even if he were a Muslim as a child who the hell cares? It shouldn't even matter if he is still a Muslim let alone what he might have believed as a four year old.
