I heard this story on Friday. The part that isn't in the on-line version is that 700 more jobs are on the chopping block.

I don't blame them, especially in this era of privatization and contracting out descent paying jobs to company's that pay a lot lower wages with little or no benefits. That is what happened with Health Care.

Really, what benefit will it be other than more money in governments coffers if they were to privatize Liquor stores for example? Nothing. We will not see lower prices? No. Lower Taxes? no. Just the loss of descent paying jobs and a bunch of new minimum wage employees, and since they will be paid so little you are not going to have the service or knowledgable staff anymore.

Contracting out jobs will not save province any money as the new lower paid employees with little or no benefits will be a drain on social programs, like for medical they will be subsidised, they will pay less income tax as they make less, have less purchasing power and then less pst for government.

This is just Campbell trying to union bust and please his big business buddies. It will be no benefit to the average BC'er.

The university sector is also getting reading for job action - this March 31st deadline for contracts is not going to be met and it is the Liberal gov't need to review ALL employer offers being made that is causing the logjam.

Technically, I'm part of the BCGEU, as I work part-time at my college but... I have final exams in April!!!

Is the government still taking it's 0-0-? position on pay increases after attempting to give themselves a double digit% raise? That's going to be a difficult position to defend.
