First sighting in 100 years

Eyewitnesses report seeing a bear high in the Alps near eastern Switzerland's border with Italy, where there is already an established bear population.

Well, I hope that this will be a happy story.

But that history of extinction specifically in Switzerland -- bears, lynx, wolves -- are the Swiss peculiarly hostile to wild animals?

The pressure on them must have been general in Europe -- I hadn't known that bears survived in Italy, eg. But the report seems to be implying that the Swiss were more efficient in getting rid of them, and Swiss farmers still are more hostile than usual.

I want to breed a tiny type of bear that would be like the size of a dog, but three times more adorable.

Still, it is fascinating when things like this happen. And it borders right on cryptozoology.
