I'm listening to Michael Coren go on about how shameful it (should be) to be a single mother. Why am I exposing myself to this? There's a segment I want to hear at 8 (that's when the FD thing is coming on).

But I thought it might be interesting to start a thread about this guy. Does anyone ever listen to him? Except that it's more than just sexism - it's religious moralism, and women just sort of happen to get in the way.

Although, right now he's got an angry caller on, calling him a bigot and a racist. Apparently the guy calls every show and rants at Coren. Well, I've got to hand it to him, at least he lets the guy on, which is more than you can say for Bill O'Reilly. It's actually kind of entertaining. Please don't let me get addicted to this, PLEASE.

Give yourself a chance ... to have an allergic reaction or something. Maybe you'll feel the urge to throw up or something. Trust your body's wisdom.

Or you could just tell yourself that you're developing your bullshit detector. Calibration. Whatever.

The FD'ers are spamming the phone lines to pitch soft ball questions.

Good work.

Well, that's okay. Whaddaya gonna do. That type of show attracts right-wingers anyhow, and Coren is clearly sympathetic not only to the free speech issue but also to the politics. So, I think it's obvious that it was going to be a bit of a softball show.

She's doing a pretty good job on there. She sounds poised and pretty reasonable. Good radio voice, too. Credit where credit is due.

reasonable? Likening Whatcott's comments to gay pride parades and the tiny amount who go naked? Hardly.

They did basically pull all support for him out from under him though.

Connie: "yeah, he is out there..."

ETA: And oh ya, Frank the Frank from over there, states a free country doe not need the human rights commission, unreal!

Well, clearly I posted before she said that, right? Coren corrected that right away, by saying that it's the vast minority of gay people who do this.

Whereas my response would have been, "You say that like it's a bad thing."

She did get a good line in. Coren asked her whether people were forced at gunpoint to visit her site, and she said something like, "No, I don't think we're the home page of the internet or anything." Ha!

I'm sorry, what can I say? I really dislike their site (I've resolved once again to stop reading it now because I've wasted WAY too much time on it this weekend!) but heck, I'd take advantage of a left-wing show too if I wanted to get the word out about something like that.

And also, I think if babblers knew I was going to be on a call-in show, they'd probably do their best to be the callers, right?

Er...right?

Well, I do not know about correcting it actually, well then again with second thoughts relativity and all that I suppose.

As I was going to say, Whatcott's hate Muslims Homosexuals words on the flyer and all the rest of that racist, sexist crap that goes on there is much worse than a Pride Parade and to compare the 2 is outrageous. But then I remembered they agree with him.

errrrrrrrrr correct, not so much right, eh!

Michael Coren....Coren... Oh yeah, he's the guy who always complains about Christian voices being silenced in the media.

Can't remember where he did that...in his Sun column? One of his many books? His radio show? His T.V. show?

Poor Michael, can't get a word in edge-wise.

Hee. Hey, I just called in to the show that comes on afterwards! (Not Coren.) I couldn't help it. The subject is underage drinking, and the host was conflating letting your kid have a glass of wine with Christmas dinner with letting 30 teenagers get trashed in the basement and drive home drunk.

He said he called home on the break and his wife told him he was a hardass, so he joked about it. I told him his wife sounds like a very sensible woman.

That is it Michelle, you took the first step towards addiction... We will keep listening to see if an intervention is needed.

And hey you should have said something before, then we could've heard your nice public voice.

Yeah, but I was too shy. Sorry!

Murray Dobbin says more lefties should listen to talk radio and read right-wing media and contribute so that the left-wing point of view comes through. So, I just held my breath and dialed.

Good idea, but am not phoning long distance to speak on Coren's show, and I am not sure we have any here in BC.

Rutherford out of Edmonton may be the closest, and that is still long distance.

They have a toll-free number. You could get on!

Apparently the show I was on tonight is normally hosted by George Stromboulopoulos (sp?) but another guy, Ryan someone or other was filling in. He was actually pretty good, I have to say. I think he was just being a hardass for the sake of baiting the callers, but he was funny, and he joked about how he and his wife disagree on the issue, made a few self-deprecating jokes.

BTW, I just renamed this to "talk radio" so it can be a generic thread, and I'm going to move it to the media forum.
