I am sorry, but the above picture scared me. Is Canada a conservative country? Are we becoming like Americans in which diversity is a weakness and might is right?

I don't think so. However, they are the largest block in our country so it makes sense for them to do well in our electoral system, even when they do not represent the plurality.

What kind of question is this? Way out of line.

This thread should be closed. Wow. Did you actually have an honest question looking for dialogue?

well, i might have been a bit inappropriate last night with this thread. But i am not backing off on the "lack of diversity" part, and I am not backing off on the fact that republicans, just like the conservatives in Canada, is pretty much a party for white heteroexual males.

If you change the thread title, I might be interested.

How about, "White, male, patriarchy wins again "?

Oh, I'm sure I could find a picture of an NDP rally with plenty of white male faces and not too many visible minorities.

Let's look at the new NDP caucus versus the Tory caucus, just for fun.

The Tories have four Indo-Canadian MPs. The NDP, zero.

The Tories have at least four MPs of Aboriginal, Inuit or Metis descent. The NDP, zero.

The Tories have three MPs of Chinese descent and one MP of Japanese descent. The NDP has one MP of Chinese descent.

Glass houses, eh?

I'm more worried about the lack of gender representation than that of diversity at the moment.

Ok, that doesn't sound right.

But I feel promoting gender representation will not hinder diversity but benefit it.

right..lets look at the type of people who support the conservative party and the type who support the NDP party..

and lets look at the role these "people of color" play in the party, are they back benchers or cabinet members who play an important role in the party, and the NDP also has significantly less seats than the conservative, so obviously, theres less chance for representation of diversity in the NDP party than in the Harper party.

Those that choose to run for the Conservatives give no warmth to the issue of diversity, no matter their numbers.

tis but a mirage but if you think you see an oasis by all means tell me it's there.
