This is a seismic shift in Korean politics. The Uri party supports impeached president Roh, a former human rights lawyer who is now likely to return to the presidency. A leftist party controls the South Korean parliament for the first time ever. The third-largest party is now Democratic Labour, a union-based party, which gains seats for the first time. code:

Dick Cheney has already flown to Seoul to do damage control, aware that anger against US foreign policy has been the Uri party's best weapon.
