Several free news sources have been running with CNN quote: President Pervez Musharraf of Pakistan says the United States threatened to bomb his country back to the Stone Age after the 9/11 attacks if he did not help America's war on terror.
Yahoo (through CBC) BBC Each are aimed a lil different. The best articles I could find on it are unfortunately behind subscription walls. Bush is pleading ignorance and stupidity as usual. Musharraf's actions make alot more sense now atleast. Added in: quote: Armitage told CNN on Thursday that he never threatened to bomb Pakistan, wouldn't say such a thing and didn't have the authority to do it. Armitage said he did have a tough message for Pakistan, saying the Muslim nation was either "with us or against us," according to CNN. Armitage said he didn't know how his message was recounted so differently to Musharraf.
Heh, that statement had me laughing. "We didn't threaten to bomb them, we simply stated the you're either with us on the war on terror or you're against us (note that we attack anything against us)". How can that possibly be misconstrued as a threat? [ 22 September 2006: Message edited by: Noise ]

good item, noisei remember speculation that this was the case. i doubt that pakistan felt that it had any choice given its problems with u.s. friend, india. weren't there also promises to pakistan of aid or trade if it cooperated? the carrot and stick thing that the u.s. seems to like to use. except that the carrot goes to so few and it usually is full of those dreadful little wirewoms.
