I agree that it's horrible. Sadly, not unheard of, even in the "first world" - the US executes people who haven't had fair trials or proper representation, as well as people who are developmentally delayed. And I think that's political too, even though they're not specifically "political prisoners".
Not to turn this into a "yeah, well the US is worse" because I don't think they are, necessarily. But we might think about cleaning up our own backyard on this issue as well as tut-tutting about countries on the other side of the world.
