The US has accused city officials of the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, of complicity in an attack on the car of US Ambassador William Brownfield.

The ambassador's convoy was pelted with eggs, onions and tomatoes and chased by motorbikes for some miles by supporters of President Hugo Chavez.

BBC: US accuses Venezuela over attack

Chavez should tell the Ambassador that he will be protected from flying fruit when the children of Iraq and Afghanistan are protected from flying bullets (and not just the oil fields). Now if the Ambassador is a good-nice man, I am sorry for this incident and do think its bad for Venezuela that this happend. But Americans shouldn't expect to be able to go around the world pushing neoLiberal market economics, without getting some of its wonderful by-product back - the rotten fruit not exported to the global North.

Venezuelan Hallacas

serves 6

1 1/2 lb diced beef
1 1/2 lb diced pork
2 cups water
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup canned chickpeas
3 Tbsp olive oil
4 tomatoes, chopped
4 onions, chopped
2 green peppers, chopped
1/2 tsp dried ground chili peppers
4 Tbsp chopped parsley
4 tsp salt
3 Tb vinegar
1 tsp sugar
2 tsp capers
1/2 cup seedless raisins
1/2 cup sliced stuffed olives
3 cups corn meal
4 cups boiling water
1/3 cup butter
2 eggs, beaten

The culturally insensitive Brownfield (aptly named for his ancestral septic field) fled without realizing that the Chavez supporters, noted for their legendary hospitality, were merely offering him ingredients for one of their favourite dishes.

So the "let's kidnap Chavez and overthrow the government" US is complaining about the "let's have our supporters throw rotten fruit at their obnoxious ambassador" Venezuelans.

If the USA had any sense of reality and justice they would be bragging about how their ambassador in Venezuela can actually drive through the streets of Caracas and not be dragged from his car, hung up in the town square and set afire.

This simple reaction to the representative of the evil empire should be an example of how relations between the USA and Venezuela have improved ... but instead, it doesn't matter what Venezuela does, even to the point of Venezuela providing cheap oil to disaster stricken southern US states, as being a knock against Venezuela.

The USA should just dry up and blow away already.

His Excellency should either be required to cook some hallacas in the Caracas airport before boarding his flight home, or else return the ill-gotten eggs, tomatoes and onions - unused. Cheap bastard, stealing the people's food...
