Somehow I missed the news that the Socialist International is looking for a new President. I must have been too busy to read the Globe and Mail that day.

The Nominating Committee is impressive:
- Spanish Prime Minister José Zapatero as Chair;
- Mexican opposition leader Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas;
- New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark;
- Hungarian Socialist Party Past Chairman László Kovács (former Foreign Affairs Minister, now a European Commissioner);
- Senegal Socialist Party head Ousmane Tanor Dieng (that party governed Senegal until losing the 2001 election);
- German federal Minister for Economic Co-operation and Development Heidi Wieczorek-Zeul; and
- South Africa's African National Congress Youth leader Fikile Mbalula, representing the International Union of Socialist Youth.
